I would not be able to compare my young teen self to any of the young teens I know today. I must admit I didn't actually touch makeup until I was a freshman in high school. This is mostly because I was never really taught how to use makeup. At this age, I didn't have YouTube to show me tutorials on applying eyeliner, or even really an older sister to show me. I mean I had an older sister, but she was in her "gothic" phase so her help to me was useless. My parents wouldn't let me wear makeup at this age either, they still thought that I was too young and were constantly telling me that I "didn't need it." But, it was less the thought of me being ugly that made me want to wear makeup, and more the concept of me "fitting in". I wasn't always as outgoing as I am today, and when I was a freshman I desperately wanted to fit in.
Now, I use makeup in a completely different way. Over the past year alone, my dependence on makeup has gone down dramatically. I used to spend up to twenty minutes a day putting on makeup and making myself look perfect, but now it takes me twenty minutes to get ready all together. This includes getting dressed, brushing my teeth, throwing on mascara and eyeliner, running a fat curling iron over and hair and- voila! Done.
